BIO

Anca Sandu Budisan was born in eastern Romania. At age two, her grandmother “discovered” her talent for drawing perfect circles, unofficially appointing her the family artist. In school, drawing became not just a passion but a way to navigate her shyness—a strategy that still works today.

Anca earned her MA in Children’s Book Illustration from the Cambridge School of Art in the UK. She is the author-illustrator of Churchill’s Tale of Tails, along with other books featuring pigs, friendly monsters, sheep, gnus, shrews, and quirky birds.

In addition to her work in children's books, Anca has worked in design and animation, and still enjoys being involved in both—especially for the creative collaboration and sense of community they bring.

She now lives in Beaverton, Oregon, with her husband and their gray cat, Mango. She’s currently working on her next book, The Home We Dreamed, to be published by Quill Tree Books in 2026.
