Sun Yung Shin is a Korean-born award-winning poet, memoirist, and author of several books for children and adults. Her third picture book, "Revolutions are Made of Love: The Story of James Boggs and Grace Lee Boggs," co-authored with Mélina Mangal and illustrated by Leslie Barlow (Lerner Publishing Group, Carolhoda), received a starred review from ALA’s Library Journal and was named one of the 2025's Best Children's Books of the Year by the Bank Street College of Education. Her second book "Where We Come From," (Lerner Publishing Group, Carolhoda), co-authored with Diane Wilson, Shannon Gibney, and John Coy, and illustrated by Dion MBD, won a 2023 Carter G. Woodson Award and was chosen by the International Youth Library for the White Raven List of Best Books 2023. Her first picture book, "Cooper's Lesson," (originally published by Children's Book Press and re-published by Lee and Low Books), is a bilingual Korean-English text, illustrated by Kim Cogan and translated by Min Paek. It won a National Parenting Publications Award and received starred reviews from Booklist and School Library Journal. For her fourth picture book, she is thrilled to be a co-author again with Diane Wilson, Shannon Gibney, and John Coy; their picture book "The Wonder of Watersheds" is forthcoming from Lerner/Carolrhoda in 2028. With Dr. Sarah Park Dahlen, she is co-writing "Asian American Histories of the United States for Young People," an adaptation of the original book for adults by Cathy Ceniza Choy, forthcoming from Beacon Press in 2027. Shin lives with her family in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
